Conservation
It is critical that everyone do what we can to reduce the amount
of energy that we use. It doesn't take a big change, just
little ones -- if we all work together, we can make a difference.
Here are some examples:
-- If everyone in the US changes one lightbulb to a low-energy
compact fluorescent, that is the equivalent of taking 800,000 cars
off the road!
-- If one household (1000 kwh/month)
signs
up for the Connecticut Clean Energy Option ((CTCleanEnergyOptionsSM)
at the cost of only a few dollars a
month, it is the equivalent to taking one car off the road.
-- If only one household (1000 kwh/month)
signs
up for the Connecticut Clean Energy Option, it is the equivalent of saving
four acres of forest.
Here are some easy ideas for how to save
energy -- every little bit counts!
-- Limit the use of your dehumidifier.
Dehumidifiers and refrigerators are among the biggest consumers of
energy.
-- Hang out your laundry (or part of it to
dry). Dryers are also high energy users.
-- Close doors to rooms when they are not in
use.
-- Plug computers into power strips that can
easily be turned on and off when not in use.
--
Don't
idle your car unnecessarily!
-- Turn off lights outside your house (do the
trees need to see?)
-- Take your holiday decorations down after the
holiday!
-- Take the bus to school!
-- Mow your lawn once every two weeks instead
of once a week.
-- Reuse and recycle!!!
-- Only run the dishwasher when its full.
-- Take shorter showers and turn the water off
when brushing your teeth!
-- Use renewable energy: sign up for
the Connecticut Clean Energy Option
(CTCleanEnergyOptionsSM) to
offset your energy usage with wind and landfill gas renewable
energy credits
-- displacing energy from suppliers using coal, oil, and gas
generation, which create carbon emissions that exacerbate global
warming.
